Dubya Fun Fact #5
In an effort to give the appearance that Dubya and his policies were creating more jobs, his administration tried to reclassify fast food employment as manufacturing jobs. These minimum wage jobs are nothing like real manufacturing jobs that provide benefits and pay $15/hour.
Dubya Fun Fact #6
Dubya proposed a budget that would slash 40% of the funding for after-school programs. This decrease would cut off about 475,000 children. He also has failed to fully fund the No Child Left Behind program. When the federal government fails to provide adequate funding for education and after-school programs, states are forced to either cut the programs due to a lack of funds or raise state and local taxes to foot the bill.
Kerry Fun Fact #5
Today's tax law provides big breaks for companies that send American jobs overseas. Current "deferral" policies allow American companies to avoid paying American taxes on the income earned by their foreign subsidiaries and encourage them to keep their profits parked overseas, not reinvested in America. Kerry will end these deferral policies that encourage outsourcing and will shut down other loopholes to make the tax code work for the American worker, not provide tax breaks for companies that ship jobs overseas.
Kerry Fun Fact #6
Kerry plans to offer a new plan to make it easier for parents to balance work and family. Their plan would increase the child care tax credit by $800 per family, make it partially refundable to help moderate-income families, and help stay-at-home parents with infants. The Kerry-Edwards plan will also expand afterschool programs to serve 3.5 million children and to keep schools open until 6 pm each night, with good transportation options for hard-working families.
Dubya Quote of the Week
“Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we, they never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we.” George W. Bush, August 5, 2004. Apparently Dubya can’t stop thinking about harming the U.S. Click here for an article about it on MSNBC.
Other Quote of the Week
"The Bush people have no right to speak for my father. Yes, some of the current policies are an extension of the 80's. But the overall thrust of this administration is not my father's - these people are overly reaching, overly aggressive, overly secretive, and just plain corrupt. I don't trust these people." Ronald Reagan Jr.
